Enable TPM 2.0 & Secure Boot on Acer / Predator

Acer and Predator PCs use an Insyde or AMI BIOS — your PC's settings menu before Windows starts. Secure Boot stays locked until you set a temporary Supervisor Password. After Secure Boot is on, clear that password before you leave.

Step-by-step guide

Don't worry if your BIOS looks slightly different. Manufacturers often update colours and layouts, but the menu names are usually the same.

Enter BIOS

Turn on your PC and tap F2 or Del until the BIOS opens — your PC's settings menu before Windows starts.

Power On → F2 or Del

Enable TPM 2.0

Open Security or Advanced and set TPM Device (or Intel PTT / AMD fTPM) to Enabled.

Security → TPM Device → Enabled

Set Supervisor Password

Acer locks Secure Boot until a Supervisor Password is set. Use a simple temporary password you will clear in a later step.

Security → Set Supervisor Password → [set password]
  • Open the Security tab.
  • Select Set Supervisor Password and press Enter.
  • Enter a short temporary password (for example, 1234) and confirm it.
  • Write the password down before you continue.

Warning: If you forget this password, you may need to clear the CMOS jumper on the motherboard or have the system serviced by Acer. Clear the password after Secure Boot is enabled.

Enable Secure Boot

Open the Boot tab. Secure Boot should now be editable. Set it to Enabled.

Boot → Secure Boot → Enabled
  • Set Secure Boot to Enabled.
  • If it is still greyed out, change Secure Boot Mode from Standard to Custom.
  • Select Restore Factory Default Keys, then return Secure Boot Mode to Standard.

Clear Supervisor Password

Remove the temporary password now that Secure Boot is enabled.

Security → Set Supervisor Password → [enter current] → [leave blank] → Enter → Enter
  • Return to Security → Set Supervisor Password.
  • Enter your current temporary password.
  • Leave the new password blank and press Enter twice to clear it.

Clearing the Supervisor Password after enabling Secure Boot is strongly recommended so you are not locked out later.

Save & Exit

Press F10 and confirm Yes. Your PC will restart with Secure Boot enabled and no Supervisor Password.

Things to watch for

Forgetting the Supervisor Password can require a CMOS clear or Acer service. Always clear the password after enabling Secure Boot.

Troubleshooting

You're done. After Windows starts, press Win + R and run tpm.msc to confirm TPM 2.0 is ready. Then run msinfo32 and check that Secure Boot State shows On.
